According to Security Management, between July 2019 and June 2020, the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) responded to 2,266 cybersecurity incidents—an average of roughly six per day. It’s undeniable that cyber attacks are increasing, and pose a serious risk for all Australian businesses. The government recently announced that they’re planning to spend $1.35 B over the next decade on cyber security to combat these attacks. You should invest in cyber security to protect your business too.
Here are some things you can do to improve your cyber security:
Patch your devices regularly
When a patch comes out for a software program or piece of equipment in your business, use it regularly and update it quickly. Patches are created to help repair flaws or issues with a program that impact its performance or safety, improve its stability, and most importantly address security vulnerabilities that can be exploited by hackers.
Enable multi-factor authentication
If there’s an easy way to enhance the protection of your credentials and prevent cyber attacks at the same time, why not? Two-factor authentication provides an extra level of protection by requiring individuals to answer a phone call, or submit a code after entering their password, to help verify the identity of the person logging on. According to Tech Beacon, weak or stolen credentials are the hacker weapon of choice, so this helps to combat that method of attack.
