If you look at many sports like NFL, soccer, rugby the winning team is usually the one with the better defence. So if Defence wins games, does it also apply to companies and winning during the Cyber Wildwest?
Currently we are in the middle of a Cyber Wildwest, where police can only look after their own little town and if someone leaves the town they have no power, except it is for countries instead of towns.
So with this in mind a company without enough Cyber defence (aka cyber protections) is going to be hacked. Each time they are hacked it will cost them:
- Money to investigate and cleanup the cyber attack
- Loss of operations when staff are unable to work during the attack and during cleanup
- Loss of reputation
- Loss of staff
- Loss of existing and new customers
Companies will shrink following a Cyber attack due to the costs, loss of operations and loss of customers, which allows companies that have Cyber Defences to gain those customers.
Furthermore more companies are choosing to only work with companies that have proof of Cyber Defences with certifications such as ISO27001 and/or SOC2. This means the number of customers available for companies without Cyber Defences will continue to decrease over time and increase for those that have Cyber Defences.
So in the business world Cyber Defences are required to be a winning company.
