On New Year’s Eve, 2019 hackers held foreign exchange company Travelex to ransom after a cyber-attack from the ransomware gang, Sodinokibi. They demanded £4.6m and were threatening to release customers’ personal data unless the company paid. The Travelex website is now back online again offering their full rage of services, and as always you can exchange money at their physical locations.
“The result of a software virus…whilst the investigation is still ongoing, to date our investigation shows that customer data has not been compromised. We have now contained the virus and are working to restore our systems and resume normal operations as quickly as possible.”
Studies show that on average there is an attack every 39 seconds on the web (Source: Security Magazine). Non-secure usernames and passwords that are being used give attackers more chance of success. Do your part to protect your company and avoid the financial loss, customer loss and stress that Travelex is experiencing.
